Being a total noob when it comes to writing and publishing, say I did want to write and publish something. Where exactly would I begin to start?
I was told by a friend once that the best idea would be to write up a chapter and see if there are any publishers who would be interested in printing the rest rather than writing out an entire piece. I dont know if that is accurate or if there are any specific ways of doing things?
Also, how about ebooks? is there a different process for publishing and marketing them?

I don't know how useful my input is here, because I haven't published.
What I've found is that some publishers prefer to deal with literary agents, and some don't. Some have particular formatting requirements for submissions and some don't. Some want a selection -- say, the first four chapters -- and some want the whole thing. I'm told that the industry standard is that you have the work completed -- at least to a first draft -- before trying to find a publisher.
Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
