About a year ago, I attended the 2011 LDS Storymakers Conference. It was the first time I had attended a writer's conference and I was blown away both by the fantastic presenters and information, as well as the incredible fellow attendees I met.
For those who attend an LDS Storymakers Conference, there is a group open to those who are published, self-published, and unpublished, called Author's Incognito (AI). It may be one of the greatest collections of dedicated, wonderful and insightful LDS writing support groups out there. They have an occasional get together, promote events and each other, and offer and receive guidance in the industry. It has been invaluable for myself and many others.
I have come to recognize however that there are many LDS writers who never have the opportunity to attend an LDS Storymaker's Conference. Additionally, because Author's Incognito and several other groups are hosted via Yahoo Group's and other similar formats, it can be difficult for some people to follow all of the information or sort through to what is most important to them. Make no mistake: groups like AI are irreplaceable. A lot can be said for sub-groups among LDS writers that can talk about a conference or other events among people whose membership is selective. I love it. It's just a smaller scope than what the LDS Writers Dialogue and Discussion board (LDS Writers board) is intended for.
And so, while sitting far from the 2012 LDS Storymaker's Conference going on over the next few days, I have arrived at a way to help LDS writers everywhere to gather, talk, encourage, cheer, cry, and succeed together. I hope it takes on a beautiful life of its own.
Because it is new (as of May 3rd), it may take a bit to get rolling. Please, join in, have a blast, and tell everyone you know about it! The more people here, the better we get!
